Exhibition runs: 13 June - 26 July, 2024
Location: Ramp Gallery
Artist: Ann Shelton

Ramp is thrilled to announce the opening of 'worm, root, wort… & bane' a solo exhibition by renowned New Zealand artist Ann Shelton. Immaculately presented and deeply researched, Ann’s work engages with the figure of the witch via her traces in plant lore and herbalism. Following on from Ann’s well received exhibition at Gus Fisher (Auckland) last year, we are pleased to open ‘worm, root, wort… & bane’ – a continuation of Ann’s investigation into these themes. As part of this exhibition Ann will work closely with students and staff at Wintec School of Media Arts as our current Artist in Residence. Ann Shelton’s work “conjures a time when women healers and their botanical wisdom were deeply revered. Midwives, pharmacists, and sages, their knowledge of plants and herbs, of soil science and magic, was passed down through oral matrilineal traditions in recipes, spells, and prescriptions that still survive today.” – Jane Ursula Harris (art writer – New York). We look forward to hosting you at Ramp for the opening celebration on the 13th of June from 4:30pm.

Ann Shelton will simultaneously be showing new work, alongside Laura William, at Eve, the first Witch Laree Payne Gallery, also opening on the 13th of June, from 5pm.
Ann Shelton is represented by Two Rooms Aotearoa.
