Explore an enchanting world of secret gardens at Waikato's most visited tourist destination. The international award-winning Hamilton Gardens is unique; it tells "the story of gardens".
Hamilton Gardens is not a botanical garden. Instead, its concept acknowledges there is a story to tell about gardens, their development over time and across cultures, and their use. The concept has been compared to a museum, where each garden collection has historic integrity and provides a window into the story of civilisations, their arts, beliefs and lifestyles. Beautiful bird's eye view of Hamilton Gardens
Visitors are guided on a journey of discovery along paths delivering mysterious surprises: step from a peaceful Sung Dynasty Chinese Scholar’s garden into an Italian Renaissance Garden, before being enthralled by the grandeur of the Indian Char Bagh (four quartered) Garden.
Telling the story of gardens through themed garden collections, Hamilton Gardens explores different civilisations, and recreates historically important garden styles from the farthest reaches of the world.
Explore the Gardens with our guides who will share the inside story of how the Gardens were transformed from a rubbish dump into an internationally significant garden. Around every corner there is something different.
Guided Tours cost $20 per adult, $13 per child (6-14years), free for children 5 and under and takes approximately an hour. Bookings are essential so please phone 07 838 6782.
