Pirongia

Towering over this quaint township is the Waikato's tallest mountain: Mount Pirongia at 959m. Half way between Otorohanga and Ngruawahia sits the tiny settlement just 35 minutes drive south of Hamilton.  Boasting funky cafes, a well-patronised local pub and strong sporting spirit, Pirongia is also famous for its regular craft markets.  The bush clad Pirongia Forest park is home to many varieties of plants and wildlife.  This a Ancient volcano hosts many keen bushwalkers and trampers in its DOC Lodge.
