About Tir
au
Tirau was originally known as Oxford, and today is famous for its icons - the largest corrugated iron sheep and sheepdog in the world! The i-SITE Visitor Information Centre is housed in a building in the shape of a dog, which was built to complement the sheep-shaped building – a wool and craft shop.
The town is a small farming centre with an increasing number of cafés, arts and antique shops.
Attractions include garden walks, the local honey industry, a deer farm, early New Zealand museum, jade factory, and a toy and doll museum.
